South Africa Adoptions

CAFAC accesses South Africa adoptions through an established accredited program.  Children are available for adoption due to economic distress or loss of parents from HIV/AIDS.

 

Child Care:  Children are in licensed private baby homes or in a safe house set up for foster care.

CAFAC assists families with documentation preparation to complete their dossier.

Parent requirements:
 

  1. Applications are welcomed from married couples.  Applicants that are under the age of 45 have no restrictions.
  2. Applicants that are 46 – 50 years of age, even if one is over 46, may be proposed a child 2 – 5 years of age.
  3. Applicants that are 50 – 55 years of age, even if one is over 50, may be proposed a child 5 years of age or older.
  4. Applicants over 55 are not accepted.

Couples must be married for a minimum of 2 years.  Applicants must be a minimum of 25 years of age.  At least one applicant must be a Canadian citizen.  Applicants must not have a serious physical disability, history of cancer or emotional disability including depression and anxiety.   Body mass index is preferred to be less than 30, with a strict maximum of 32.  Single applicants are not accepted.

Children:  Many are abandoned and have no history available. Other children are reqlinquished by their birth parents; it is the birth parents choices as to which adoptive family to place the child with. Children range in age from a few months old to over 3 years of age.  Siblings are possible with an age range up to a minimum of 6 years. Twins are not common.

Waiting Times:  Child proposals usually come to the family within 3 – 18 months after the file is in the country.

Fees:   Couples report that the complete cost for the adoption process ranges from $35,000 - $40,000 CAD depending on price of plane tickets and stay in country.

Immigration:  Canadian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa.  Families must use the Canadian Citizenship process for this country.
