Provincial Parent Liaison Positions In a National Post Adoption Support ProjectThrough the Adoption Council of Canada Continues !!!
In the last newsletter an article was submitted to make adoptive families aware of a Post Adoption Support Project through the Adoption Council of Canada. This project continues at this point but one new piece has been added to it by the Manitoba liaisons.
Youth Liaisons have joined the team meaning there are two youths who have agreed to receive questions from adoptees and families about various topics. The questions can be sent to the youth liaisons by way of the two provincial parent liaisons and when the questions are answered the message shall be returned to the sender via the parent liaisons. It is done in this fashion to protect the youth liaisons from questions they may not feel comfortable answering.
Having youth liaisons is a very powerful tool because as adoptees they have knowledge that many of us do not if we haven’t been through the life experience. Other adoptees may not feel comfortable talking to adults about some topics and this allows an avenue of commonality.
Youth Liaisons have the ability to make a difference in the way future post adoption supports are designed. As we plan for our children’s futures input from youth who have lived through similar experiences can be critical to a successful, happy child.
Therefore not only do we try to make adoptive families aware of the parent liaisons, support groups, and resources but the all important Youth Liaisons.
