Home Study Process

Manitoba Families

• Register and attend Manitoba seminar
• Register with our agency and begin the home study process
• Dossier preparation package will be sent as you work through home study

Out of Province Families

• Register with your province- Registration informs the province of your intention to adopt, and sets in motion the process of obtaining permission.
• Register with an approved agency for International adoption-you may be required to attend a seminar of some type as part of your agency’s protocol as well.
• Register with CAFAC-workbook and dossier preparation package will be sent. If you choose to attend the Manitoba seminar, please be in touch with us when registering.

Registering with our agency gives us the legal right to represent you in both Canada and the child’s country and allows information to be shared between your province and CAFAC.

Home studies are completed after 3-6 visits. You will have discussions on a variety of issues such as personal histories, marriage relationships, or if not married, your personal support systems etc. The social worker will require proof of your education, finances and employment, and criminal record checks and child abuse checks must be completed. Medicals are required and are country specific. You will be asked to share your views on parenting, discipline ideas and practices etc. Cultural and racial issues will be addressed and a frank discussion about the age and type of child or children you see yourself able to parent.
