Brazil has a large population of approximately 174.5 million people, with 45% of the population younger than 20 years old. 55% of the population comprises mixed European heritage, 38 % of mixed Asian, African, Middle Eastern heritage, and 6% of African heritage. Aboriginal peoples make up only 300,000 of the total population. Many children live in orphanage care due to poverty and social conditions with in the country

Dossier preparation: CAFAC prepares all dossiers, after the family has gathered the required documentation for the country. Documents need to be notarized and legalized prior to submitting to Brazil

Parent Requirements: Brazil has very flexible requirements. Applicants must be 21 years old. There must be 16 years difference between adopting parent and child. Singles that live alone or with blood relatives are considered. There is no mandatory length of marriage but stability in the marriage must be established. There are no religious restrictions.

Children: Generally, children from Brazil range in age from 3 to age 15. Brazil is a land of immigrants. Therefore the children reflect the major influences of Portuguese, African, Indian, German, Polish, Italian, and Japanese ancestry.

Waiting Time: The time from submission of family's dossier until placement varies according to the age of the child. Sibling groups, school-aged children, and children with special needs are immediately available. LIMIAR is currently not accepting application for the adoptions of single, healthy infants or toddlers (under age 4 years) unless an adopting parent has Brazilian citizenship.

Travel: Travel to the country is mandatory and usually done once. The duration of the trip for the adoption process will be about 6 weeks, more or less depending on individual circumstances, the age of the child adopted, and any other extenuating circumstances at the time of your adoption.

Fees: Couples report that the complete adoption process costs ranges from $30,000-$40,000 CAD depending on exchange rate, length of foster care, price of plane tickets, stay in country and the provincial jurisdiction they are from in Canada.

Immigration: The Canadian High Commission is located in Sao Paulo

Post Placement: 3 social worker written reports are due in the first year.
